"tageth, i have been'

Well, my darling friend Kate, has tagged me......."write six quirky things about myself".

QUIRK ONE:  when writing, I often start the word with the second letter and have to go back and put the first letter in.....

QUIRK TWO:  I love the smell (would you believe it----I just wrote 'he mell' instead of 'the smell'!!!)........anyway, of a freshly lit match. No, I am not a pyromaniac.

QUIRK THREE:  I have always found interest in racing to the front of the house if I hear a siren coming......to see which variety of emergency vehicle is coming/going.  I think I get this habit from childhood.  My Grandad was a fireman, and I would run to see if he was going past in his firetruck.  My Dad always thought that I'd be an ambo just to be near sirens - no thanks, WAY too much blood.

QUIRK FOUR:  I am extremely pedantic about hanging my washing on the line.  I sort the washing as it comes out of the machine, large items, kids items and underwear......then they all go on the line with like garments----yes, shorts with shorts, socks in the pairs with other pairs of socks, you get the picture.

QUIRK FIVE:  I hate the feel of chalk.  One of my biggest nightmares as a child was to have to clean the blackboard dusters at school.

QUIRK SIX: I think that coriander smells/tastes like cat urine......NO, i have not tasted cat urine.

QUIRK SEVEN: My husband said that me putting ... after things was quirky... what's a bit of extra punctuation between friends for impact of the written language...???

ANYWAY...(there I go again), I don't think that I know 6 people who have blogs, so the tagging 'buck' will have to stop with me, darling Kate.

Hope that you've all enjoyed it!

PS I was going to add a photo...but my internet connection is having technical difficulties

Blue Eyes

For some unknown reason, my boys have recently found my earrings to be a great topic of discussion. They are keen to know if it hurt to get "the hole put in there"?, does it hurt everytime I put in earrings?, how old was I when I got the "holes put in my ears".......etc etc etc

I had decided to change my earrings (which doesn't happen very often), and I asked William if he would like to choose another pair for me. We got out the little box with all of my earrings and sorted them into 'can sleep-in'/ 'can't sleep-in' piles. He chose a little pair of studs from the 'can sleep-in' pile which are a lovely aqua blue with gold, and are even more lovely because they used to be my Grandmother's (you know me and anything vintage).

As William was discovering the technical side of inserting earrings, I mentioned that these earrings made my eyes look really blue (my eyes change from green through blue to grey).

About this time, Thomas had gotten out of the shower and joined us in the bedroom. He picked up a pair of earrings from the 'can't sleep-in' pile, a red dangly pair I wear at Christmas time, and proceeded with these words of wisdom:

"Mummy, if you wore these ones, would your eyes turn red???"

What more can I say?!?!? The pic above is from the archives of 'yet to post' holidays snaps. This one was taken on Christmas Eve at Rod's parents house.

Blow me over

Last night I had dinner almost ready. The boys were playing a game on the Lion Kind DVD, and had done so a few times already. This is dialogue of the next few minutes.....

Will - "Mum, tea's almost ready, isn't it?"
Me - "Yes, sweetheart"
Will - "Tom, we had better turn it off now"
Tom - "Oh, OK, I suppose we have already done it three times"

...Will turns off DVD...

Tom - "Mum, can we start tidying up now?"

Some one could have knocked me over with a feather about then!! It is reassuring that very rarely, little insights of parenting achievements pop into reality, and we haven't been imagining the last six years of endless days of 'teaching' our kids the right things to do, say and act.

There is hope for the future.

Out of Sync - but great pics of my 'middle mister'

All fairly self explanatory!!

The bottom is yes, Will playing cricket......but the bat was lovingly made by Grandad out of a fence paling (with some bits 'jig-sawed' out) and some electrical tape wrapped aroung the handle for 'padding'. Will was WRAPT!!

Victor Goes to Church!

Victor - the dog (who was donated to Tom's kindy after Cyclone Larry....from another kindy in South Australia), came home with us for the weekend. He joined in all of our usual weekend activites including church on Sunday morning. We didn't get a photo diary of the whole weekend, but I remembered to take the camera with us to church..........hence the "Victor goes to Church" pics!!

The Hide

This morning I decided to take advantage of the many fallen palm fronds that are littering our yard. The project started out with the aim of creating a tee pee, but due to windy conditions, turned out to be more of a 'hide', resting on another large fan palm frond and the fence. The boys immediately swung into action and created a 'weapons store' (milk crate), with Keesha as their 'sabre tooth' for protection. I have a feeling it will remain standing for a few days yet, with many hours of play battles and the like to take place.
